Me and my buddies have raced BMX for a long time.  All the big races happen in the summer where we live.  My mom was taking us to a meet and we were excited talking about who was going to be there.  My friend Tim had a lot of points already and he could qualify for state competition if he won.

Mom started asking if we had all our gear.  We thought she was nuts because we do this all the time.  Tim finally said that he had taken a header off the hill by the creek at home, but his helmet was okay.  She told him that he had to use my helmet instead.  He didn’t want to because his helmet matched all of his gear and mine was just black, but we all knew we had to listen to my mom.

He cracked up in a pileup in the first race.  He flew off his bike and landed headfirst in a pile of hay and dirt.  They wouldn’t let him go back and race that day, but his head was okay.  Mom said later that she had a vision about him being in a pileup and knew he had a gear problem.  When they checked out his helmet it was cracked and my mom knew it ahead of time.
