Lost Checkbook

I’d been caregiving for my elderly mom for nearly 6 years.  She suffered from senile dementia and had been suffering with debilitating arthritis for years.  But she was my mom and I had a hard time taking charge when she had moments of lucidity when she would challenge the decisions that I made day-to-day to take care of her and keep our house in order.

Mom insisted on carrying a purse in her wheelchair, and in her purse were her checkbook and income checks from social security and my deceased dad’s retirement fund.  Once a month I took her to the bank so she could deposit her checks, then I’d pay her bills and take care of personal expenses while she was sleeping or otherwise incapacitated.  As her condition deteriorated she became very secretive and argumentative, purposefully hiding things from me and then not remembering where they were.

The day came when I needed to pay her bills but couldn’t find her checkbook.  I asked her what she’d done with it and she didn’t know what I was talking about.  A couple of weeks went by and I couldn’t find her checkbook anywhere.

I called a friend of mine who practices as a medium and asked if she could help.  She took a few minutes and told me to look under the jewelry box on the top shelf of my mom’s closet.  I said she was crazy!  My mom was very petite and could hardly walk without assistance.  There was no way she could even reach that shelf.  My friend insisted I look, so I hung up, pulled out a ladder and climbed up into the closet.  There it was!  I learned a lot that day – about the power of remote viewing and about the challenges of living with someone with dementia.
