Max was a great dog who loved to run away.  Mom and dad always thought I left the gate open, but I swear that Max could get out of a locked room without a sign that he’d ever been there.

One weekend I got up to take Max for his morning walk and couldn’t find him anywhere.  I was so scared!  I’d really get in trouble for letting him get away again and I wouldn’t get to go to the beach with my friends.  I sat in my room crying and asking for Max to come home.  I could picture him with his bright, shiny eyes and it was almost like I could see him crying to come home to me.
I kept picturing him behind a fence trying to get out.  I didn’t know where he could be but started walking through the neighborhood calling his name.  I walked for nearly an hour and suddenly heard him barking nearby.  I ran in the direction of his bark and saw the fence that I’d pictured in my mind.  I knocked on the door and a lady told me that she’d caught him running down the street and locked him up to keep him safe.  I put on his leash and took him home.

Max never ran away again, but after that I figured that if I had to I could always find him again if I concentrated hard enough.
